In the beginning...

Oh gee golly, gosh-darn-it, holy moley, do I love flowers. I love to look at them, talk about them, learn about them, teach others about them, play with them, create with them, my boyfriend can even attest to fact that I dream about them... frequently (during my flower shop days, the nights following especially busy holidays were often punctuated with me waking him up, shoving him over and demanding he stop crushing the hydrangeas I was just about to wrap).

In a crazy life with lots of things happening, flowers make me slow down and appreciate the incredible world around us. Sitting down with a coffee and a market-fresh assortment of gorgeous blooms is the best part of my week. I love to think about how I will encourage them to play nice with my chosen vessel. I feel so grateful to have a partner who listens intently when I talk through my ideas and my process and happily comments on colour scheme or shape when I ask his opinion, but really there is only so much that a non-florist can take. So from here on out, I hope this will be a place where I can ramble about flowers, foliage and the mystifying plants that produce them.

Seriously... look at this double hibiscus, in a colour I can only describe as electric tangerine. Come on! It's incredible. Gush, gush, gush. We may be nearly into November, but seeing this makes me feel like the summer sun is still on my shoulders.
