Christy + Adam’s Hotel Depot Restaurant Wedding, Sonoma, CA

About 6 years ago my older brother Adam quit his job in New Jersey (he worked for a wine importer), packed up his car and moved across the country to California. He wanted to experience a new aspect of the wine industry and decided it was time to take a leap. He didn’t have anything sorted out – no place to live, no job organized – just a lot of enthusiasm, courage and grit. Whenever I think about this, I’m overwhelmed with pride and joy for Adam. His move to California not only helped him grow his career – he now works for Colgin, a premier winery in St. Helena, California – but also lead him to meet his incredible wife, Christy. Christy is a ray of sunshine. She is the bubbles in a sparkling white. She is the garden enthusiast who plants ranunculus of all colours, keeps king protea on the patio and hangs miniature orchids in the shower. Christy also happens to be a wine maker and ardent cat-lover. She’s my kind of people.

I could go on forever about how much I love these people but I’d rather share photos from their wedding. I tried as much as possible to capture their spirit with the flowers I put together for them. Candy colours anchored by peaches but punched up with pinks and corals and sunshine-y yellows. I mixed garden classics like roses and peonies with some of Christy’s tropical favourites – pincushion protea and gloriosa lilies. I can’t tell you how lucky I felt to get to use the incredible locally grown product from the Sonoma Flower Mart, to work in Napa and Sonoma (in May no less!) and to have the kind support and guidance from local florist, Kirk Wilder of Acme Floral.

The Depot Hotel + Restaurant served as the backdrop for this very special day. Diane Askew Photography captured all the action from start to finish.
